What do writers drink?

If you read Hemingway or Fitzgerald, you'd think we were all sitting here swilling bourbon and gin while we scribble our stories. My observance has been, however, that most current writers are more interested in the caffeine spectrum.

I, for example, must have my fresh pot of tea, duh™ (thanks, Charlie Sheen!) There are many writers out there who join me, not the least of of whom is Stephen King. Apparently he has breakfast with his wife, Tabitha, and then takes his fresh pot to his desk where he works for three hours.

There are  probably others who go a healthier route, drinking spirulina or wheat grass juice. So, my question for all writers and readers out there is:

What beverage do you keep on your desk?

Coffee or tea. I like to keep it simple.

"Now bear with me, I have to order for everyone. Ok, I'll have one Soy Largie, one Teeny Tiny, one Teeny Teeny Tiny Unleaded, one Plain Jane extra Yum - what the hell, make it a double Yum. Uh, a Baby Joey, a Midnight with a Full Moon - hold the pumpkin, a medium coffee, I need a Heavy D in a travel mug please, two Crazy Ivans, a Saurons' Eye. Also I need a DAMN! and an iced DAMN!, a Sneaky Pete, a Double Drip with a Snip of Whip, and a Frap-Cap heavy on the cchchschshchsh cchchschshchsh. ......" - Cougar Town

See, this question is very tied to WHEN I write, and I happen to have a full time day job (where I drink coffee and water) but when I get to writing at night, I generally like to drink wine.

Wine is good. I like wine.

My "desk" has a steering wheel and an ever-changing 360 degree view-- I drive around doing mobile x-ray in the Reading, PA area. Just shy of 100% of the time I drink all of my morning coffee at home-- saves a ton of money. Every so often, I'll buy one out somewhere-- none of the ones mentioned in your post, Alison!! Just a no-nonsense leaded coffee with cream and splenda or liquid stevia. Every so often a diet Pepsi (not a diet Coke person). That's pretty much it. (Martinis are out of the question while I'm driving the company car!!)

Water. Sigh. Also known as "wooder" to Philly area folk.

Hahaha! "Wooder!" I was so confused the first time I heard someone say it. "You want a glass of WHAT?"

I usually don't drink when I write. Unless I am drinking something already.
